Showing determination in the face of fear makes us extraordinary.

William Halsey once said, “There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.”
Matthew Mansfield in His Study

I AGREE WITH WILLIAM HALSEY, BECAUSE GREATNESS IS SOMETHING THAT’S HEWN FROM THE FIBERS OF DIFFICULTY. WITHOUT ADVERSITY WE WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND PEACE, JOY, OR HAPPINESS. OUR GREATNESS IS HIDDEN WITHIN EACH OF US AND IT’S OUR DUTY TO EXERCISE THAT PART OF US. MY PERSONALITY TYPE COULD EASILY BE DESCRIBED AS CONTINUOUS IN NATURE AND I’VE LEARNED TO HONE THAT TO MY ADVANTAGE, AS IT PERTAINS TO PROBLEM SOLVING.

Much of my family growing up suffered with mental health irregularities, which opened my eyes to another world that most people only read about. Understanding how to discipline my mind by comparing and contrasting with the general populous helped to keep my wits about me. I knew that things would never be “normal” with my family associations and so I looked outside the home for solid role models to emulate. Living by things such as, Benjamin Franklin’s thirteen virtues, for example, have been key in guiding my inner drive.

Through the process of comparing and contrasting, I have learned to question everything; not for the sake of picking the thing apart, rather, to learn the etymology. This led me to what I call The Three F’s: Find the facts, Filter the facts, and Follow the facts. This is my model that I use even today because it does not allow room for error. Should one aspect of this method fail, I run back through the process. Filtering is where issues may arise, but with great study, what to filter becomes clear.
